An age-old legend speaks of a cave high in the Andes mountains and of an ancient city named Marraso, which was protected by the spirit of an ancient horse, whose image was painted on the wall of the cave. The people of the city named the image El Caballo Antiguo, the ancient horse, and believed the symbol had mystical properties.

No sign of either the legendary cave or the city has ever been found, but the fruit of the vineyards, planted in the shadow of Los Andes, is said to contain the spirit of El Caballo Antiguo and produce amazing flavors that make this wine unique.

Founded in 1999, the winery was the seventh (in Spanish “septima”) winery introduced by the Codorníu Group, known for its world-famous cava and still wines from Spain and Napa Valley. Imported exclusively by Aveníu Brands, Septima produces authentic wines that are modern, with a nod to tradition.

With Quara wines, Francisco Pancho Lavaque, fifth-generation winemaker, reinforces his family’s passion and commitment to quality while displaying Argentina’s fresh new approach to winemaking. Pacho’s winemaking philosophy is interpreted clearly in Quara: “Quara is for those who understand the greatest accomplishment in life is one’s ability to enjoy it. Life should be fun. Be fun and you will have success.”

Quara wines are estate-grown and bottled at the Lavaque family’s Finca el Recreo winery in the Cafayate Valley. The Cafayate Valley is located in the province of Salta, the northernmost wine-producing region in Argentina. Wine production in this area dates back to the times of the Spanish Conquest and the Lavaque estate is testament to this heritage as the Fina el Recreo winery is more than 200 years old.

Although the region is rich in winemaking history, the winery continually updates with the help of the latest technological advances to become one of the most modern estates in the country. At almost 6,000 feet above sea level, the Finca el Recreo winery enjoys a 40-degree swing in daytime and nighttime temperatures. The result is a fuller ripening and greater sugar preservation in the grapes. Also, the vineyards are situated on an ideal eastern slope of the Andes Mountains where the vines are irrigated with Andean snowmelt through a natural gravity-fed system. Together, through state-of-the-art technology and this extraordinary ecological environment, Quara wines have a unique character that is distinctly Argentinean.

Viña Carmen was founded in 1850 by Christian Lanz, who named the winery in honor of his beloved wife Carmen. More than a century later, in 1987, the Claro Group acquired the brand to take it into a new direction. In 1992 a new winery was built and new vineyards were planted to produce the best-quality wines from Chile and export them worldwide.

Carmen has been recognized for its quality and for being a pioneer in the Chilean wine industry. As an example, the Carménère grape was discovered amongst Carmen vineyards. Additionally, the winery has been the leading producer of wines from organically grown grapes through its Nativa brand.

Today, Viña Carmen is one of the most important Chilean wineries in the premium wine segment. It exports to more than 50 countries, which represents 94% of the total production.

Caliterra, whose name drives from “la calidad de la tierra,” represents quality (calidad) and the land (tierra) of Chile.

Consisting of a series of Reservas and Tributes that are produced from the Colchagua, Curico and Casablanca Valleys, a key element in Caliterra’s philosophy is the incorporation of sustainable natural viticulture practices. Fruitiness and a definite style—modern, fresh and distinctive, with the particularities provided by each variety, mark the characteristics of Caliterra wines.

Viña Caliterra was created in 1996 as a partnership between the families of Robert Mondavi of Robert Mondavi Winery and Eduardo Chadwick of Vina Errazuriz to craft wines that stand out for the fruity, fresh and distinctive style of each variety, expressing the quality of Chile’s terroir and fruit. In January of 2004, the Chadwick family became the sole owner of Caliterra.

Combining the best of the new world with the distinctive fruit and best traditions of Chile, Caliterra represents a passion for quality that aims to create modern, innovative wines that express Chile’s potential as a world-class appellation.
