Mermelada is a sassy, sweet red from Spain, made from grapes harvested at the peak of sweetness. Like marmalade the grape skins are added back to the wine to deliver a pleasant tart finish. Mermelada is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet & Tempranillo, Estate bottled at Raimat in D.O. Costers del Segre.
Grapes for Mermelada come exclusively from the 5,000 acres of planted vineyards on the Raimat estate, which ensure signature character and personality. Sustainable practices increase vine health and wine quality. Precision agriculture (through deficit irrigation, weather stations, harvesting maps) controls yield and amplifies flavors. Advanced training systems and canopy management promote full and even ripening. The summers are hot and dry with cold nights, typical of the area’s continental climate. Phenolic maturation occurs around mid September and the harvest usually takes place at night, taking advantage of the low temperatures. The harvest is carried out expediently in order to avoid grape oxidation and ensure premium grape quality.
