Fifteen hundred feet up Oak Mountain, Cabernet Sauvignon vines hug the sides of a track so steep and sharply curved that the vineyard manager’s four-wheel drive groans with each shift of gears. The early morning air is cool and clear, affording stunning views of neighboring ridges to the west and of the Russian River, coiled ribbon-like on the quilt of the valley below.

This is Standing Bear vineyard on Ridgeline’s remote 409-acre property in the prestigious Alexander Valley appellation of California’s Sonoma County. Named for a 30-foot granite outcropping that resembles a grizzly bear, the 11-acre parcel is one of seven vineyards producing Bordeaux grapes that translate into superbly structured Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. That these wines express so discernibly the character of their place of origin is due to meticulous planning and vigilant caretaking in the service of our guiding philosophy. Every great wine starts in the soil.

Ridgeline Cabernet Sauvingon

Focused cassis, blackberry and plum are complemented by abundant spice—clove, allspice, vanilla, nutmeg and a hint of mint. Finely knit together and rich, while having sufficient tannin backbone for aging. This wine will be delicious for well over a decade.

Ridgeline Merlot

A wonderfully complex wine that opens in your glass. This Merlot is full of cherry, plum, blackberry and blueberry fruits melded with spicy cedar, clove and allspice. Enticing hints of chocolate, butter, vanilla and smoke delight your nose and provide great depth. This is a serious Merlot with excellent structure and finely polished finishing tannins, and it will age gracefully over the next decade.
