Scala Dei

A remarkable winery dating back to the 12th Century, and surrounding the most distinctive “terroir” in Spain, Scala Dei (Latin for “Ladder of God”) produces wines of exceptional flavor and depth. Wines from Scala Dei are among the most critically acclaimed from the region.

The first winery in Priorat, Scala Dei was founded in 1163 by Carthusian monks, who introduced vine-growing in the region. The name “Priorat” comes from the Latin word “Prior,” the head of the Carthusian monastery founded in the village of Scala Dei.

Scala Dei

Scala Dei Cartoixa

Crafted of Garnacha from the property's best vineyards, Cartoixa shows a deep purple color with hints of terracotta. A complex layering of soft red fruit compote, chocolate and vanilla come together on the palate. The wine is robust and powerful with ripe tannins that add to intensity. Bottle aging produces a balanced and rounded wine.

Scala Dei Prior

This elegant blend leads with brick-red color followed by fruit aromatics and then notes of vanilla toast from oak aging. On the palate, the wine is broad and full bodied, with good structure and a long persistent finish.

Scala Dei Garnatxa

This vintage yielded a fresh wine dominated by red fruit notes. Cherry red in color with bluish hues that denote its youth. Aromas of ripe red berries with underlying mineral hints from the licorella terrior. Red berries reappear on the palate with a rounded mouthfeel. A balanced wine with lots of fresh fruit.
