    2009 Gran Reserva

This comes out swinging, with bullish berry and prune aromas that hint at being stewy but then pull back. It's saturated and tannic but not rough, with black fruit, chocolate, toast and pepper flavors. Minty and dark, with a licorice note on the finish. Drink now through 2016.

    2008 Gran Reserva

The nose is dark, solid and full of attractive black fruit and coconut aromas. Lush and a mile deep on the palate, with sultry, smoky, dark flavors of blackberry licorice and spice. A chewy, rich and balanced wine.

    2007 Gran Reserva

A fine wine from Septima, most likely with Malbec at its base (though the label says nothing of the sort). Aromas of blackberry, raspberry, perfume, pepper and asphalt are attractive, and the rooty richness and slight medicinality of the core flavors are unique but not out of focus. One of the winery's best wines to date.

    2006 Gran Reserva

The 2006 Septima Gran Reserva is a blend of 55% Malbec, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 13% Tannat. It was aged in new French and American oak for 12 months. The Malbec component was sourced from a pair of vineyards planted in 1914 and 1954. It offers up a complex aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, black cherry, and blackberry. Surprisingly elegant on the palate, it has a plush palate feel, some layering, ripe, savory flavors, and plenty of length. Drink this outstanding effort between 2010 and 2018. Septima was founded in 1999 by Codorniu, the giant Spanish cava producer, the seventh winery in their group.

    2005 Gran Reserva

This wine reveals notes of black cherry as the potent smokiness of its oak recedes with air. Its pleasing, rustic tannins will meld with roast leg of lamb.
