Legaris is the synthesis between the tradition of a land and the modernity of its people.
Over 2,000 years of grape growing experience in Ribera del Duero and a radical will to innovate resulted in one thing: The ability to make an excellent wine.

But how exactly does Legaris champion the unique qualities of one of Spain's most prestigious and challenging growing regions? Through state-of-the-art technology and traditional artisan winemaking methods. Legaris has made its name as a wine of identifiable character and outstanding quality.

The Legaris winemaking process is based on meticulous vinification that pays maximum attention to the fruit that arrives at the winery both from its own vineyards as well as from some of the oldest vineyards in the region of Ribera del Duero. The complex wine notes of Legaris originate from the various types of grain and levels of toasting for the oak barrels. This allows different aromas and flavors, such as vanilla, coconut, spices, balsamic tones, coffee, cocoa, cedar and toasting aromas to blend with the wine's varietal aromas of ripe, black fruit and plums.

A classic expression of Ribera del Duero, this is big and ripe even as it's layered and seductively complex. The evolution in the bottle has calmed tinto fino's typical astringency as well as allowed it to display all its layers of flavor, the wine opening lika fan to show deep notes of coffee, plum and earth. The flavors are persistent - a wine you can taste long after the last swallow.

93 — Wine & Spirits — June, 2011

At first, ripe voluptuous fruit gives this an international style, impressive for its luxurious texture. But air takes it into another dimension, building on the fruit with a mineral note close to graphite and a structure that only becomes more tense and monolithic.

Cellar Selection. Garnet violet black color. Lively, earthy aromas of chocolate mousse, berry nut pasty, and baking spices with a silky, lively, fruity medium body and a tingling, medium-length sour cherries, nuts, and earth finish with chewy tannins and light oak. A vibrant, chewy Rioja with great flavor and balance. Drink now-2017

92 — Wine Enthusiast — February, 2015

CELLAR SELECTION. Bold, deep cola, lemon peel and exotic spice and herb aromas are a great intro to a well-built, saturated, but fairly tannic Tempranillo, with flavors of plum, blackberry and chocolate. Cedar and spice notes positively influence a layered finish. Overall this captures the essence of Ribera del Duero. Drink through 2022.

92 — Wine Enthusiast — April, 2014

This rich, heady offering is full of bacon, blackberry and lemony oak on the nose. In the mouth, it's firmly structured, with rock-solid but not pointy tannins. Loamy flavors of blackberry, coffee and licorice are dark and warm, while the finish is clean yet heady. Overall, this is modern Ribera del Durero; drink through 2020.

Bright ruby-red. Raspberry and cherry compote aromas are complicated by anise, tobacco and floral nuances. Shows impressive energy and focus, offering sweet red fruit and rose pastille flavors braced by tangy minerality and a late note of blood orange. Fine-grained tannins add shape and grip to the very long, spicy, floral finish.

90 — Wine Enthusiast — May, 2014

Smoky, toasty aromas ride comfortably on top of blackberry and cassis scents. This is a tannic, pinched wine with plenty of structure. Loamy berry flavors come with ample but not overpowering oak notes, while the finish is firm, healthy and tight. Drink through 2020.

90 — Wine Spectator — February, 2014

The components of this young crianza feel tight and austere, from its severe tannins to its black fruit and pungent acidity. Pour this with lechazo to discover what's beyond those impenetrable tannins.

90 — International Wine Cellar — September, 2014

The 2010 Reserva is a selection of old, head-pruned Tempranillo from higher-altitude zones, aged in French oak for one year (50% new). The wine has a commericla nose with abundant notes of spicy oak and lactic hints mixed with showy notes of red and black fruit. It is still marked by the barrels, but seems like the freshness provided by a very balanced year and the higher altitude of the vineyards is able to counteract the effect of the wood. One to wait for. Drink 2015-2018.

Inky ruby. Aromas of dark berries, roasted coffee and vanilla, lifted by a floral top note. Fleshy and seamless on the palate, offering sweet blueberry and cherry-vanilla flavors and a hint of bitter chocolate. Finishes with good lift and focus, leaving spicy dark fruit notes behind. Drinking very nicely now, with fully absorbed tannins.

90 — Wine Enthusiast — July, 2012

With aromas of warm earth, cedar, tobacco and meaty black fruit, this covers the basics of Ribera. It feels plump, round and maybe a bit flat, with rich, ripe blackberry, prune and spice flavors. It's harmonious and full-bodied on the finish.

90 — Wine & Spirits — October, 2007

As black as coal, this has surprisingly bright red cherry flavors. Its texture, however, remains impenetrable. The finish, full of ripe raspberry and black pepper, would match roast duck.

90 — International Wine Cellar — September, 2011

Deep red. Ripe cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complicated by cocoa, vanilla and burnt sugar. Round and fleshy, with ripe dark fruit flavors gaining brightness in the mid-palate. A sweet black raspberry quality sneaks in on the smoky, broad, persistent finish. No rough edges to get in the way of enjoying this wine now.

88 — Wine Enthusiast — December, 2013

While not a mind-blower, this fresh Verdejo is all that it should be. The nose offers a just-right blend of minerally crispness along with apple, melon and citrus aromas. The palate is properly tangy, while flavors of orange and melon finish solid and zesty.

88 — International Wine Cellar — September, 2013

Light yellow. Pear, melon and honey on the nose, with a lemon zest nuance adding vibrancy. Fruit-driven and supple in texture, offering ripe orchard and citrus fruit flavors with a hint of bitter herbs. Closes dry and nervy, with good cut and spicy persistence.
