GOLD MEDAL. Violet color. Rated one of the TOP 100 VALUES of 2014.
BEST VALUE. This offers an engaging core of ripe plum and dark currant flavors, lifted by fresh acidity. A mix of dried herbs, hot stone and cocoa powder lingers on the finish. Drink now though 2019.
Purple, aromas of Asian spices, lavender, black cherry; supple-textured, plush, long finish.
This big red wine has considerable polish, in part, no doubt, because Codorníu Argentina, a subsidiary of the great Spanish wine-producing firm, owns Bodega Septima. This juicy wine manages concentration without going over the edge. The tannins are mild, especially considering the overall size of the wine, which means it's very approachable now and would be a good choice for grilled beef this summer.
The 2011 Malbec has a simple nose of soy-tinged black fruit that has absorbed the American and French oak well. The palate is medium-bodied with touches of burnt toast and rosemary on the entry, coca-tinged tannins and a pleasing, smooth, harmonious finish.
BEST BUY. Warm, slightly leathery and earthy on the nose, with a hint of cheese. Feels full, nice and solid, with decent depth. Flavors of black fruits and pastry are friendly, while the finish is pleasant. Delivers all it can for the price.
BEST BUY. A well-made everyday Malbec that gets it done in all ways. Smells nice and floral, with bold, smooth berry aromas. The palate is fresh and lively, with juicy berry flavors, controlled creamy oak notes and spice.
Not a cookie-cutter Malbec; the nose is a little rustic and leathery, but with time black fruit aromas rise up and take over.
