Aroma & Flavor: Aromas of black fruits and licorice with notes of cinnamon and cocoa from aging in barrels.
Barrel Type: Aged 12 months in American oak barrels (15% new); once bottled the wine rests for 14 months in the bottle.
With Viña Pomal Crianza, Bodegas Bilbainas shows its ability to make an excellent younger wine, with a new balance between the classical Rioja character and a more noteworthy presence of fruit flavors. After a two week maceration period, the wine spends one year in American oak casks. It is then aged at least six months more in the bottle.
